Entrepreneurial students and researchers at the University of Bern benefit from an innovation ecosystem that provides them with optimal support for their projects. It is constantly evolving and offers a dynamic environment in which they can develop.

UniBE Campus

In partnership with the National Centres of Competence in Research of the University of Bern (PlanetS, RNA&Disease), bench2biz offers workshops that help participants to move from an idea to a concept stage, shape their venture ideas, determine the commercial value and marketability of their idea or invention. 

CSEM Digital Health has been an integral part of the innovation environment on the Insel Campus since the end of 2023. The CSEM department in Bern, focused on digital health, contributes its many years of expertise in the development and construction of sensor systems for medical wearables, miniaturization, wireless connections and ASIC design with extremely low power consumption.

The Entrepreneurship Center at the Institute of Marketing and Management at the University of Bern focuses on teaching of and conducting research on entrepreneurship. Besides offering a CAS in Entrepreneurship, it organizes the "Business Ideas" and "Business Concept" courses mandated by Innosuisse, as well as the yearly STAGE UP competition.

The ECB is a student association founded by students of the University of Bern and the Bern University of Applied Sciences. The association aims to create a platform for all who are interested in entrepreneurship, innovative ideas and/or a more sustainable society.

The Innovation Office is the central point of contact for all questions relating to innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of Bern and the Inselspital, Bern University Hospital. It supports you individually and personally in the realization of your innovation project. This includes the design of your idea, advice and preparation for relevant funding instruments as well as networking with players in the ecosystem and potential partners.

The IVE is a student-run association that organizes various workshops teaching entrepreneurial soft skills, on topics such as “Find your values” or “Strengths Workshop”.

Reatch is a Swiss think tank for well thought-out decisions from science and society. Just turned 10 years old, Reatch promotes a culture in which science, society and politics pull together to create the best solutions for the challenges of today and tomorrow.

The Technology Transfer Office of the Universities of Basel, Bern and Zurich, Unitectra, supports researchers who wish to commercialize their research results in the protection of intellectual property (patents, trademarks, copyrights), in licensing and in contractual matters with industrial partners.

Insel Campus

The Competence Center for Medical Technology promotes research and development projects in medical technology and closely related areas. It also supports national research and teaching in these fields.

The School of Biomedical and Precision Engineering (SBPE) is a newly established institution promoting innovative technologies in both Precision Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. At its heart is the unique Creative Engineering Lab: A state-of-the-art learning and teaching laboratory equipped with the latest technology and machines.

The Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) and the Clinical Investigation Unit (CIU) work together under the umbrella of the DCR. Together, they support patient-centered research during each phase of a clinical trial with their broad expertise.

The Direktion Lehre und Forschung (DLF) coordinates and finances university research and teaching at the Bern University Hospital and the other Insel Gruppe locations.

The Swiss Institute for Translational and Entrepreneurial Medicine (sitem-insel) provides infrastructure for the research and development of medical devices and biomedical technologies. In addition to access to state-of-the-art laboratories, various technology platforms, modern office space and a vibrant community, sitem-insel also offers leading educational programs in translational medicine with the sitem-school.

The Sitem StartUp Club is an investors club for MedTech startups. Members have access to expert consulting, coaching, potential investors, and low-cost workspace in the modern Sitem MedTech Hub.

Canton of Bern

Aare Ventuers is a Business Angel Club for early-stage ventures from the Bernese Mittelland. 

be-advanced offers consulting in all phases of the corporate cycle as well as needs-oriented coaching. This includes start-up consulting and a three-stage program for start-ups.

be-connected is a digital platform with an overview of over 150 support offers from 50 organizations, an agenda with important events, as well as a job portal.

As partner for digitalization in education, BeLEARN supports research and offers networking events and solutions in the fields of digital skills, digital tools and data science for education.

The Impact Hub Bern catalyzes innovation and entrepreneurship by providing space, cultivating a thriving community, offering training, events and various programs.  

The BEDA supports Bernese businesses with setting up a company in the Canton of Bern in terms of administration and networking.

The Swiss Center for Design and Health is the Swiss competence center at the interface between design and health. It offers training, analysis, consulting, simulation and co-prototyping.

SIPBB is a private Swiss non-profit organisation that performs and supports industry-focused applied research and development.

ZID supports businesses and startups by providing space, innovation consultancy services, curated peer-to-peer sessions and a US market entry program.

Innosuisse is the Swiss Innovation Agency. Its role is to promote science-based innovation in the interest of the economy and society in Switzerland.

The Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) is responsible for examining, granting and administering industrial property rights (patents, trademarks and designs), and offers various services and information on intellectual property.

SEIF supports founders who want to solve the world's most pressing challenges and helps companies that have integrated a positive impact into their business concept to find the optimal product-market fit and scale.

The news portal provides daily information on company results, launch of innovations, growth, financing, exits, support services, events and award tenders.

Swissnex is a network for education, research, innovation and art. It connects Switzerland with the world's innovation centers. Swissnex supports start-ups through the Innosuisse Internationalization Camps, the Venture Leader Program and the Academy-Industry Training (AIT) program.

The Swiss Startup Association helps Swiss startups to better position themselves in politics and education and to increase their viability.

Venturelab is designing and operating startup programs to support entrepreneurial talents in Switzerland, including Venture Kick, Venture Leaders, the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Award, and Innosuisse Start-up Trainings.
