A study by the University of Bern shows that gut bacteria partially convert arsenobetaine, found in seafood and previously considered harmless, into toxic arsenic compounds. These findings raise new questions about the safety of seafood consumption.
Nature
A team involving the University of Bern analysed sediments from former glacial lakes and showed that they are older than the last ice age. A nuclear waste repository at this depth would therefore be safe from future glacial advances.
