We advise you with regard to:
Research proposals
The Grants Office and the Innovation Office assist you in finding and obtaining the appropriate funding for your research project.
Project idea
To help you find a suitable funding scheme for your project, we:
- introduce you to the relevant search options at the University of Bern
- acquaint you with the major public funding agencies
- provide background information on the funding schemes
- search with you for funding options for your project idea and give you a strategic assessment if different options are available to you
Eligibility
To ensure that you meet all the necessary requirements of the funding agency, we:
- provide background information on the funding schemes
- explain the most important rules of the funding agency
- inform you about the funding criteria and check your eligibility to apply
Proposal writing & submission
We support you in the formulation as well as the timely submission of a complete application. We offer different services depending on where you submit your proposal. Select one of the funding agencies above, for which we provide support, to learn more.
Research projects
The Grants Office and the Innovation Office support you in the grant preparation phase and during the lifetime of approved research and innovation projects, in connection with contracts and administrative aspects as well as financial and scientific reporting.
Grant preparation
Once your proposal has received a positive review, we support you in interpreting the evaluation report and preparing for the next steps. We prepare you for the administrative tasks of research and innovation projects so that you face as few stumbling blocks as possible during project implementation. We offer different services during the project management phase depending on which funding agency is financing you. Specific services by funding agency
The services of the Grants Office and Innovation Office are free of charge.
Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)
The Grants Office provides support for the career funding schemes.
The Innovation Office provides support for the innovation-oriented funding schemes BRIDGE Proof-of-Concept and BRIDGE Discovery.
Innosuisse
The Innovation Office offers support for applications and projects with and without implementation partners and as part of the Flagship Initiative.
European Framework Programmes (EU)
The Grants Office provides support for all funding schemes of Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020, the European Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation.
US Federal Agencies
The Grants Office provides support for all funding schemes of the US Federal agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense.
Other funders
The Innovation Office is the right point of contact for questions about Eurostars and Eureka.
Contact the Grants Office for questions related to publicly financed research funding programs such as EU Partnerships, ERA-NET, COST, Human Frontier Science Programme, and UK Research Council. We support you if desired and necessary, within the scope of our resources.
Non-public research funding (e.g. foundations, associations) is outside the mandate of the Grants Office. However, we are still your point of contact if the University of Bern needs to register with a funding organization to enable you to submit your application. We also obtain the signature of the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation if needed, or refer you to the appropriate contact. In addition, we will answer your questions as best we can.
