Tools for Digital Collaboration

“E-collaboration” is the use of digital tools for collaborative work – to share knowledge, discuss concepts, process results, and reach agreements.

The University of Bern offers you tools and support for internal and external e-collaboration, whether in real time on site or independent of time and location.

What are you planning?

Do you want to develop ideas or processes and make content available to others? Edit files synchronously or asynchronously with several people? Send large files? Here, we recommend various online tools to work efficiently together with others on files:

In the “iTools” area of ILIAS (Integrated Learning, Information and Work Cooperation System), you have the possibility to set up a working group. This particularly facilitates asynchronous e-collaboration.

ILIAS working group with external people

An ILIAS working group can only be set up by members of the University of Bern, but it is possible to grant access to external people (e.g. from companies and the private sector or international universities). No access to other systems of the University of Bern is possible. For access to other systems, please contact the person responsible for IT at your institute (internal page in German).

The University of Bern offers you the right software or a suitable room with the appropriate infrastructure for every type of online meeting.

Meeting software

At the University of Bern, Zoom and Microsoft Teams are available for your online meetings.

Zoom

Zoom is suitable for both online meetings with smaller groups as well as for larger events. A licensed Zoom account is available free of charge to all members of the University with a campus account.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is suitable for online meetings with smaller groups. Teams is integrated in the Microsoft 365 suite and is available to all members of the University of Bern.

Rooms and infrastructure

At multiple locations at the University of Bern, there are a variety of rooms (lecture halls, seminar rooms, meeting rooms) available with the required infrastructure for hybrid online meetings and conferences. These rooms are equipped differently and must be reserved in advance.

The easiest way to arrange appointments with a group of people is via online tools that show the availability of individual people:
