Store and share files

Members of the University of Bern have access to 1 TB of cloud storage space via Microsoft OneDrive with their campus account. Microsoft stores the files on servers in Europe.

Shared files can be edited by several people at the same time using Office Online (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Synchronization on your own computer is possible.

What do you need to do?

Log in to the Microsoft Office portal via your browser with your Campus Account. The University of Bern does not offer central support for OneDrive, but in the UniBE Knowledge Base you will find some tips from IT Services, e.g. how to reactivate data that is longer there or has been deleted.

Other file storage options

Institute server

A relatively secure option for file storage is to use your institute's own server or a network-connected storage system. You can obtain information on this from the IT managers at your institute, who also devise security concepts.

Cloud data storage

The IT Services Office provides an overview of various cloud data storage systems. Sensitive data must always be transmitted in encrypted form.

Switch Drive

The SWITCHdrive option is not provided centrally by the university.

University of Bern regulations

Please consult the University of Bern information and regulations below. Please note that in the case of international research collaborations, export controls may be relevant not only for the exchange of files, but also for the informal exchange of knowledge by email.

Note also:

  • Although access to the files on Microsoft OneDrive is only possible with a Campus Account or authorization, no sensitive data should be stored.
