Working together synchronously with whiteboards

Do you want to develop ideas, create lists, map processes, or launch an icebreaker campaign at an event? Online whiteboards are particularly suitable for synchronous collaboration and can be optimally integrated into different scenarios.

Zoom

The University of Bern recommends the Zoom Whiteboard, which is included free of charge in the university-wide Zoom license. You can create, manage and share whiteboards directly in your Zoom account. Zoom stores the data on servers in Europe. Log in to the UniBE Zoom portal via your browser or desktop app.

The following whiteboard functions may be helpful:

  • Dashboard: Share, lock, highlight whiteboards
  • Display: cursors of participants; multiple pages per whiteboard
  • Interaction: add comments and reactions; delete reactions; mind mapping
  • Documents: Upload files
  • Archiving: Export whiteboard as PDF/PNG (in the browser)
  • Recovery and editing status: version history

Miro

The University of Bern does not offer a campus license for Miro whiteboards and therefore no central support. In order to make use of the maximum range of functions and a certain level of data protection, an education license is recommended. Miro stores the data on servers in the USA.

Please note:

  • Do not ask others to create an account with Miro.
  • Set your whiteboards to private: Settings > Permissions > Sharing settings > Only board owners can access.
  • Save your whiteboards as PDFs.
  • Delete data or whiteboards that are no longer needed.

Teams

Although the Teams whiteboard function is currently available within University of Bern meetings, it is not recommended because there is no central support.
