Innovate & Translate

The Innovation Office is the central point of contact for innovation at the University of Bern. It promotes a dynamic culture of innovation and entrepreneurial thinking at the University of Bern and the Inselspital. The mandate of the Innovation Office is to support students, researchers, and faculty members in translating ideas, research, and inventions into innovations. It seeks to strengthen UniBE’s role in creating value through knowledge for society and the economy.

The Innovation Guide provides an overview of the most important support opportunities for innovative and entrepreneurial projects at the University of Bern and the Inselspital and in the local ecosystem.

Unitectra is the technology transfer office of the Universities of Basel, Bern, and Zurich.  Its services support the universities and their researchers in the commercial exploitation of research results. This includes in particular

• Evaluation of inventions
• Protection and management of intellectual property through patents, copyright, and trademarks
• Strengthening intellectual property during the proof-of-concept phase
• Negotiation of licenses on reasonable terms with implementation partners, whether existing companies or newly founded spin-off companies, and control of licenses

In addition, Unitectra supports researchers in negotiating research contracts with partners from the private and public sectors, taking into account University guidelines. This is particularly the case for contracts in which intellectual property regulations are relevant.
