Registration and conditions of participation
Students and employees of the UniBE can register for our language courses. Enrollment is also possible for students and employees of the Bern University of Applied Sciences (Berner Fachhochschule, BFH) and students of the Bern University of Teacher Education (Pädagogische Hochschule Bern, PH). For students of the University of Bern, there are no course fees. Employees pay a course fee.
Online Placement Tests
If you are participating in a Language Center course for the first time, you must take the online placement test first. You can then register for a course that corresponds to your level. Each course has a maximum capacity of 20 participants. If you have an international language certificate issued within the past year, please contact the administration office (for English: info.aes@unibe.ch, for German: info.daf@unibe.ch). In such a case, you can be exempted from the placement test. If you have completed a language course at the Language Center within a year, you will receive a registration link for a course at your target level.

Students have priority in the allocation of course places. If you have received a place on the waiting list, please check your e-mails regularly. Concerning the German courses, please note that you can only register for one course per semester. There are two conditions for course participation:
- Regular attendance is required because excessive absences may result in inability to complete the course. Please notify your teacher in advance if you are unable to attend a session.
- Sufficient time must be allocated for self-study activities. The courses are fast paced and to keep up, you must complete exercises and tasks outside of class time.
To be eligible for any other of our courses in the following semester, you must fulfill all the course requirements.
