War in Ukraine
The University of Bern strongly condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine and supports Ukrainian students and researchers.
The University of Bern stands in solidarity with Ukraine and its universities. We support the statement by swissuniversities, the appeal of The Guild and statements made by its partner institutions and networks on the solidarity of all democratic states with Ukraine.
The University of Bern supports academic freedom, openness and cooperation across all borders. The current crisis affects not only Ukraine and Russia, but all of Europe. The University of Bern is concerned about the life and well-being of students and researchers in Ukraine. Moreover, the University of Bern assures its students and employees from Ukraine of its full support.
"We are doing everything we can to alleviate suffering and to give our Ukrainian university members and those who have to flee Ukraine our full support," says Christian Leumann, Rector of the University of Bern. "At the same time, we have respect for researchers, students and all other people in Russia and Belarus who speak out against the war."
The University of Bern advises and supports its students and researchers from Ukraine and supports individuals or groups at the university who want to help.

The Ukrainian Society at the University of Bern
The Ukrainian Society at the University of Bern (UA-UniBe) was established in February 2022. UA-UniBe was created with the idea of providing a platform for communication and mutual support for Ukrainians scholars affiliated with University of Bern (UniBe) as well as with Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH).
