Forest bathing came to Europe via Korea, Japan and the USA. In Asian countries, forest bathing has been a recognised healing principle for prevention and aftercare for many years.

Forest bathing or Shinrin Yoku can be translated as "immersion in the atmosphere of the forest". The Japanese tradition understands bathing not only as a method of cleansing the body, but also as a method of maintaining health. Forest bathing helps to boost our immune system, making us less susceptible to illness.

Spending time in the forest and experiencing it with all our senses has an involuntary dampening effect on the excitement side of our nervous system, the sympathetic nervous system, and stimulates the relaxation side, the parasympathetic nervous system.
