The Student Union of the University of Bern (SUB) represents the concerns and interests of the students of the University of Bern. It is a public law entity based on the University Law of the canton of Bern. Over 90% of students in Bern are SUB members. It represents the students versus the university, the canton and other committees. The positions of the SUB are discussed and approved by the democratically elected Student Council. At the national level the SUB is involved in the Association of Swiss Student Bodies (VSS) The VSS represents students' concerns at national and international level.
As well as political representation, the SUB offers the students of the University of Bern a comprehensive and varied range of services and advice. For example, the Studijob online portal provides a simple means for students to search for a suitable part-time or vacation job. Accommodation advertisements can be placed and viewed free of charge on the accommodation portal of the SUB. Free tickets to cultural events enable students to go to the theater or concerts free of charge.
The SUB is also there to help students of the University of Bern in difficult situations. For instance, the legal advisory service and social fund of the SUB are two points of contact available to students in the event of legal questions or financial difficulties.
