Preview of the next uniFOKUS, March 2025: Women in academia
You may have noticed that of the twelve Nobel Prizes awarded last fall, one went to a woman. The South Korean Han Kang received it for her literary skills. The Nobel Prize Committee honored eleven men for their scientific achievements, along with millions in prize money.
Yet so much has happened since Anna Tumarkin became the first woman in Europe to become a university professor in 1909, incidentally here in Bern. Or has it?
We are taking Anna Tumarkin's 150th birthday in 2025 as an opportunity to dedicate the next issue of uniFOKUS to women in academia. We would like to shed light on the history and status quo of equal opportunities between the sexes in academia; and also give space to self-critical voices.
