The University of Bern grants its employees a great deal of freedom so as not to hinder the search for new insights and the expansion of knowledge boundaries. But these freedoms are not absolute. Researchers must be guided by ethical and moral values, comply with laws and regulations, maintain their scientific integrity and handle the funds and assets entrusted to them correctly.
Principles of research integrity
The principles of research integrity include (Singapore Statement, 2015):
- Honesty in all aspects of research;
- Accountability in the conduct of research;
- Professional behaviour and fairness in collaboration with others;
- Clear organisation of research in the interests of others.
The University of Bern wants to continue to cultivate a culture of personal responsibility and autonomy. However, this can only be realised if members adhere to and implement relevant legal regulations and internal directives. In turn, autonomous action requires that members of the University are familiar with the framework conditions.
Good Research Practice Contact Point
