German as a foreign language

Would you like to integrate into the University of Bern by learning German and developing your academic language skills. We are here to support you. The courses at levels A1 to B2 take place twice a week (four × 45-min. lessons) so that you make fast progress. Courses at level C1 take place once a week (two × 45-min. lessons).

The semester courses are open to all members of the University: employees of all faculties and centers, administrative employees, and employees of central services.
(Students of other universities, including BeNeFri, auditors, and other individuals from outside the University, are not allowed to participate in the courses.)

Online Placement Test for German

Course registration takes place in two steps:

Step 1: entering personal details (open from August 20, 2025). The placement test can only be taken after this. 

Step 2: completing the online placement test. The test is available from 10:00 a.m. on August 25, 2025 to 12:00 noon on September 17, 2025.
